Update on Peyton

Peyton Douglas 6

The doctors gave Peyton emergency surgery early Tuesday morning for his first heart by-pass. The medicine was taking a toll on him and they couldn’t wait any longer. We were told then that they didn’t expect Peyton to make it. They started working on Peyton at 8am and didn’t finish until 6pm. There were a lot of complications but our little fighter – HE MADE IT!!

The medicine that was keeping Peyton alive prevents liver function so his body was not able to produce anti-bodies for his blood to clot. A baby his size would normally lose 25cc of blood and hour. Peyton was losing 45cc every 45 minutes. He lost more blood than two adults have in their bodies. He is now receiving blood, plasma and platelets that will help him to build the antibodies that he needs. Also his sternum is being kept open for now because he is so critical and he is being kept paralyzed and asleep. The medicines that he’s receiving now will help him recover from the physical trauma.

Peyton’s body is fully functional on its own now, however, he is on a ventilator to help him breathe, only because they just want him to rest and not have to work for it.

The next step is to wean Peyton off of all the drugs that he is on and to get him out of a critical state so that they can close his sternum.

This will take a few days with no other complications.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support. Peyton wouldn’t be able to do it without you! Please keep thinking of him and praying for him. He needs all of our prayers.
