The Trauma Coaches Barter Coaching Circle is for serious Trauma Coaches looking to connect, support, and experience growth in a judgment-free zone. It is a collective whose purpose is to serve and support a growing community of Trauma Coaches for the betterment of not only serving clients but also building your coaching practice and/or business.

  • You are ready to stretch your coaching muscles and expand your skills by coaching clients that you may not normally.

  • You are excited to learn from mastermind presentations, and to explore shared resources such as exercises and worksheets to use with clients, agreement and other form templates, a recommended reading list and much more.

  • You are ready to be a part of a community of other trauma coaches.

  • You have done a sufficient amount of personal work to provide coaching, to play the role of the client and pivot topics when needed, to recognize when you are triggered and to respond to triggers as opportunities for healing and growth.

  • You have a coach mindset with curiosity, compassion and Self Energy.

  • You are ready, willing and able to meet clients where they are, including through relationship repair.

  • You are interested in the sort of learning opportunities the Circle presents, including but not limited to: recognizing and owning growth opportunities that show up, advocating for yourself, working through disagreements or misunderstandings rather than ignoring them, attending masterminds and/or watching replays.

  • You are continuing your personal work, addressing soft spots, taking responsibility, not projecting, etc.

  • You are eager to continue learning about trauma and related topics.

  • You are eager to continue learning and/or growing to better support yourself and your clients.

  • You have strong emotional intelligence and/or are not being held back by fear from addressing shortcomings and soft spots where needed.

THE TRAUMA COACHES BARTER COACHING IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

  • You have a tendency to project or blame others.

  • You cancel and/or reschedule often and/or do not come prepared as a coach or client.

  • You have a tendency to complain rather than sharing for the purpose of seeking support, especially complaining without ownership of your role in a matter.

  • Are currently experiencing active or passive suicidal ideation and/or is struggling with any limiting emotional state.

  • You struggle with anger or any issues to the extent that you’re venting rather than being an active participant in addressing the issue at hand.

  • You are not able to be present in the moment or attuned to others.

  • You have no interest or intention in learning new/other modalities, exercises and/or coaching  tools.

  • You are not focused on emotional intelligence / maturity and/or are not able to reach out and receive support, even if uncomfortable.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  • For IAOTRC, membership requires that you have completed the program for initial certification or above and your tuition is paid in full. You are eligible to join before taking the exam or completing your portfolio, but you must have taken all the classes required.

  • For TICC, membership requires that you have fully completed the TICC program.

  • For COMPASS, membership requires that you have fully completed the COMPASS program.

As a member of the circle, you will not only be partnered with another member as your ‘client’ partner, you also will play the role of client for your coach partner.  Where available, assigned matches will be made with others from your school of certification. You will meet with both your coach and client once a week, separately, to coach, and be coached over a 12 week schedule.

This weekly schedule is decided by you and your coach/client. At the end of the 12 weeks you will be assigned a new coach and a new client to start all over again. This will include two (2) coaching circle cycles.

Masterminds and Group Discussions will also be held, where available to further share knowledge, practice our skills and learn from one other.

All circle announcements are made in our Trauma Coaches Barter Coaching Circle Facebook group. Once enrolled and invited, all members are required to join the group. This is a very low key group, primarily used for announcements and to host the masterminds and store replays.

  1. You must have a stable means of internet connection from your location. Please be mindful if you live in a rural area or in a country (ex. China) where access to stable internet and/or zoom may inhibit a stable connection for effective communication.

  2. You agree to coach and be coached by your appointed coach and client for two (2) full 12 week cycles. This includes abiding by the rules, ethics and policies and procedures of your governing body. No-Shows are unprofessional and unacceptable.

*Accountability Policy: The accountability policy is designed to support you as both a coach and a client so that you may show up for yourself and your clients in a professional and safe manner. By joining the Circle, you are agreeing to be both a coach and to play the role of a client for 12 weeks. In both roles, it is imperative that you treat your coaches and clients time and resources with respect by showing up for sessions, communicating with your coach or client in a timely manner and rescheduling when you are unable to keep an appointment. Rescheduling should be kept to a minimum and reserved for serious interruptions only.

    • Clients: In your role as a client you will be expected to book all 12 sessions with your coach, PRIOR to the first week of coaching. Once done, you will log in and log the date that you have completed that.

    • Coaches: A specific benefit to being a coach in the Circle is that you get the opportunity to practice running a business and that extends beyond the time spent with your client each week. Coaches also play an important role as accountability partners with clients and practice attunement throughout the relationship. You will log in weekly to report the date you coached that week. This will help you track your time with your client. And it will ensure you notice if/when your client misses appointments. While you will receive a courtesy reminder email each week, please report as soon as your session ends so that it is not overlooked. A no show client presents an opportunity to support them in understanding what they may be experiencing and to course correct sooner rather than later. Depending on the circumstances, this may be the time to remind them of your policies and to practice setting professional boundaries.

  3. When being coached, come prepared with a topic: a real-life struggle or business challenge. Have a goal, the mindset and an intention for each session. Be mindful that this is a professional development service and opportunity for the coach. To support learning, your coach will depend on you to come prepared with a real life goal to work on. Not all coaches are in the same place or able to support clients in the same ways. Please bring topics that are real for you and that you and your coach feel you can partner on. If your coach is in a place where they are not able at this time to support you in deep healing for example, move forward and work together to determine where they can support you, including but not limited to your own business development.

*If you are looking for a dedicated coaching service for specific healing needs, you are encouraged to seek support outside of the Circle. Membership in the Circle is a professional development service to support Coaches Specializing in the area of Trauma.

  4. Be flexible. The times set for coaching and being coached will be decided by you and those you are paired with. We will do our best to pair you with those in your time zone, however serving Trauma Coaches around the world, this is not always possible. When International time zones arise we match with the closest time zone available. There are both male and female coaches in this circle so you could be paired with either. Members must [be] flexible and be willing to be coached by both. There are also several certifying trauma organizations participating so you may be paired with a members outside of your certifying organization.

  5. All coaching done by you in the circle should follow the → Code of Ethics ← as set by the ICF, the → Guiding Principles / Code of Ethics ← as set by the IAOTRC or the Psychological Association Code of Ethics ← as set by COMPASS. You also agree to abide by the membership requirements.

    * Providing Trauma Informed Services Policy:

All points of covert and overt interactions with a client, including outside of session must be trauma informed. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Maintaining a coaching mindset by recognizing that clients are whole people, complete with a full range of potential trauma responses and personality types. While a given individual might not be someone the coach would choose to be friends with, the coach must still maintain an objective viewpoint and coaching mindset of the client and about the client at all times.

    • Cyberstalking or ‘researching’ clients is strictly forbidden. Not only is this unprofessional and unacceptable behavior, it can also encourage assumptions and discrimination. Not looking clients up online is an important professional boundary that respects both the coach and the client. The urge to look clients up online may be an example of hypervigilance and therefore an opportunity for the coach to deepen their own healing and growth.

    • Coaches must be aware of their own biases and limiting beliefs and protect against them showing up in their work with clients.

  6. As a client you are coached for 45- 50 minutes. This is followed by a 10-15 minute review of the session focusing on insights. You will verbalize:

    • How the coach helped you in the session (what you learned or what shifted for you).

    • How the coach can further develop their skills, honing in on their strengths to gain confidence, and overcome their weaknesses.

→ Give and receive quality feedback ←

  7. (Optional) At the end of each cycle give your coach a review for their website. To honor confidentiality and/or anonymity reviews should be listed on websites using first name only. Or as a client, if you are not concerned with anonymity, you can choose to leave a review on the coaches google business page or their social media business page. This is totally up to you as a client, it's optional, and should be something you are comfortable doing.

All assigned Coaches/Clients are members of the circle that have completed a Trauma Coaching Program with IAOTRC, COMPASS, or MTHS.

  8. Memberships cannot be transferred.

Rules:

Etiquettes to follow:

  • Make each session Client Focused (don't over share or make it about you as the coach)

  • Be completely present and ready to engage. Remove any and all distractions (silence phones, remove children/pets/spouses/ etc...)

  • Create a safe space for connection and communication

  • Honor the privacy of your client

  • Honor the cancellation and reschedule policy of your coach

  • No-Shows are unprofessional and unacceptable. Whether you are running a business or building your reputation as a coach, not showing up for your coach or client, quitting, backing out or leaving the circle after being matched with a client and a coach is extremely unprofessional. It's a reflection of you, and how you conduct yourself. It also causes a huge inconvenience to all other members, as they have to take on the work left behind. Be sure you are committed, ready to pivot with real topics that you are comfortable being coached on even if your coach is not able to meet you on preferred topics and have the time to participate before you join the circle.

  • Be courteous, respectful, and prepared for the session

  • Everyone is a trauma survivor, the coaches are too.

  • The circle provides an opportunity to practice professional development even as they are working on their own skill development. How long a coach has been practicing does not necessarily determine expertise. A coach who has been practicing for decades will still have areas of growth.

  • Clients also will have specific points in which they need a coach to show up for them to optimize their healing. However, the focus of the circle is to provide this practice for the coaches. If the client is in dire need of support, it is best that they seek an outside coach that they can assure is a good fit.

  • Understand that many members have pre-existing relationships before becoming members of the circle. However, when paired with a client, the client relationship must be treated as any client relationship to avoid violating the code of ethics.

Rules not respected are considered grounds for removal from the Circle. Please be sure you are fully committed to honoring the membership requirements before joining.

  • Honoring the Agreement at sign up is also imperative to a successful membership in the Circle. However, there are a few specifics that may be grounds for removal and will be contingent upon the below violations, to name a few.

    • Not responding to the Circle’s staff multiple attempts to reach you via your preferred method of communication.

    • Missing the deadline to request skipping the upcoming round

    • Not honoring the agreement you have with your coach, such as, but not limited to, no shows and / or disregard of their cancellation policy.

While we typically follow a 3 strikes rule, each case will be assessed individually. Removal is not taken lightly and there will always be a conversation. You will always know exactly where you stand and you are invited to reach out if ever you have questions.

In the best interest of skill development within the circle, Mentor coaching in the form of observation will be provided where needed and only by your request as the coach. This is to ensure all members get the most out of the circle.

CHALLENGES IN GETTING IN TOUCH WITH YOUR COACH/CLIENT MATCHES MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY.

Members should be mindful that:

  • Build and/or streamline your work process and improve your workflow. This is a great way to see what works for your business and what does not. The more you can simplify your process the better.

  • Sharpen your skills as a coach. This provides a unique opportunity to confidentially share your challenges and gain insight on issues, enabling you to explore potential solutions, and achieve better outcomes. It also provides the opportunity to gain and/or master the skills needed to work with the clients/situations you find most difficult. There will be times that you have feelings of disengagement, a sense of disconnection or you may feel triggered by clients. If this happens in the circle, get your coach to coach you around it if they are able so you know how to navigate the experience when it arises. Getting comfortable in the uncomfortable is a big part of healing, and a great skill to have under your belt.

  • While the primary focus of the circle is professional development for coaches, this also provides a unique opportunity to confidentially share your challenges and gain insights as a client. Understanding that your coaching assignments will not always be the best fit that you might seek outside of the circle, this is a chance to be coached on what is coming up for you, including learning to exercise your voice and choice while supporting the coach in their professional development.

  • Learn how to communicate above and beyond your triggers. As trained trauma professionals, you know your stuff. When coaching and also when playing the role of the client, you get to practice recognizing triggers, meeting yourself with curiosity and compassion, then choosing to respond rather than react. To the degree that your relationship may support it, you may wish to discuss such instances with your coach so that they may support you.

  • Become a better Self-Advocate. Speaking up for yourself and your own needs does not come easy. It’s a skill that must be learned and practiced, transforming conversations, building self-confidence, and supporting your overall well-being. Self- Advocacy benefits both your life and your coaching practice.

  • Learn from your coaching colleagues. We are all students and teachers. The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose is to give it away.

  • Build a team of colleagues you can confidently work with moving forward and refer clients to should their topic be outside of your scope of practice.

  • Compile authentic coaching reviews to help promote your business. (Confidentiality and/or anonymity must be honored).

  • Build your coaching hours. We barter coaching in this circle. Remember to track your hours.

  • Get access to discounted CE courses.

  • Become a part of the Compassion Program. (Available to members who have completed one full membership/2 coaching cycles.)

“Gratitude for the Trauma Coaches Barter Circle  Scholarship program. I am one of the beneficiaries of the TRC Scholarship program.  It has allowed me to gain experience coaching people with different types of traumas, which I might not have been exposed to.  I have also gained support around my own trauma. It has given me the opportunity to grow as a coach, to learn compassion and empathy for the many different types of traumas.  It is an excellent run program. Everyone I have dealt with has been very professional and reliable. I am very grateful for the opportunity.” - Heather
